The day for their fight had finally come, the two hares step into the ring as Gritt still remains puzzled about whether Kaye had remained annoyed over making fun of his name. This was Gritt’s first official fight in the ring and a long one. The match is to go for 12 seven minute rounds of bare knuckle fighting. The two fighters approach in the center as Kaye gives Gritt an intense stare. The gray furred hare assumes his stance and smirks, while Gritt does the same while feeling uneasy.

The bell rings and the fight begins as the two move around lightly, tossing quick jabs and the occasional kick at the other. The hares do a good job of dodging most blows headed their way. This opening round was mostly spent as a quick way to test what the opponent was capable of. Halfway through the round Kaye gets impatient and forces a real confrontation with Gritt. He picks up speed and tosses faster, heavier blows at Gritt.

Caught off guard, Gritt is immediately forced to dodge and defend. A few punches slip past and land on his face as he’s opened up. One left punch hits harder than the rest as it causes Gritt to stumble. Kaye takes advantage of this as he forces Gritt towards the ropes. Kaye spends the rest of the round giving as much effort as he can to try and end the fight instantly.

Gritt holds strong against the other hare’s assault as he counters with a flurry of his own. The two men spend the last minute swinging wildly on the ropes. The round ends with the hares heading back to their corners sporting a few marks on their faces. Gritt had now realized that Kaye wanted blood.
