So I've had Secretary Bird picked out for my species for like, 3 or 4 years now, but I never really had a character design finalized. I did try multiple times too but I always had a ton of trouble. Turns out bird character designs are actually really difficult, at least when you're actually trying to carry traits over instead of just conforming it to a strictly human structure.
I finally managed to put together a design for him I'm happy with though. Actually finished this a while back but never bothered to throw it up on here until now. I want to put together a more complete ref sheet for him in the future but no idea when.
I want to take a lax policy to my OCs, for noncommercial use anyways. For Norm, though, since he is a representation of myself, I ask that you ask before you use the design for anything.

I want to make a feral version, though the problem is that the crest feather design doesn't work so well for that body type cause the longer feathers intersect with the back. I'll figure out something though.
My philosophy with anthro designs is basically to keep as many animal traits as possible while creating a character that can do at least most of the things a human can. Generally the further from human's you go on the evolutionary chart the harder it becomes to do that though since there's less and less homologous stuff to work with.

I like your standards and design philosophy. Ideally for me, I'd love seeing a feral still trying to do all the things a human can (and hopefully succeeding) because I find it extra wonderful and adorable. I figure a big feral bird could still do most things due to their foot dexterity (something like hatoful boyfriend birbs)~
