A dragon disguised as a human, goes to fight a dragon, but what the group didn't realize was this would end differently then they expected.
We're supposed to take down a dragon, but... I don't want to hurt them. I've been disguised as a shy human cleric, and am a little nervous about approaching my cave.
"Hey, you've seem pretty distant since we took this quest, are you alright?" The bird humanoid captain, Ripan, asks me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a lot on my mind." I say, looking around.
"It was the same for me, but I guess we're feeling what the captain is feeling." Calapine says.
"I don't... want to die." The captain says.
"I heard that this dragon has put a pretty unique puzzle to get inside." Vaston says, looking around. I know he's looking for the switch.
"Yeah... I've never faced something like this before. I'm scared."
"We're all scared, captain." Calapine says.
I walk over to a tree and flick the switch. "Found it." I say, hearing the cavern open.
"Let's go in, then." The captain says.
Ripan and Calapine are arguing as they enter the cavern.
We reach my chambers, but they still don't know. They ask one of the kobolds where the dragon is.
"Master is not here right now." They answer.
"Well, where the hell is he, then?"
"Dunno, captain. Would you like a drink?" The kobold asks, pouring you some wine.
"It might be a trap." Calapine says, as I down a shot.
"Damnit, he has an addiction to that stuff." The captain says.
"What? Dragon wine is good." I say.
"It's poison, you fool!" Calapine says.
I shrug, and take another drink.
"Poison surely would've taken effect by now, right?" I ask.
"Is he trying to get us killed?" Ripan asks.
"I wouldn't put it past him." Calapine says.
The captain sighs, and takes a drink.
I walk to the center of the room, taking my clothes off.
"What the hell are you doing?" The captain asks.
"I'm confessing." I reply. Scales cover my body.
"What?"
I raise my hands up, revealing that they're covered in razor sharp scales. The kobolds gasp, backing away.
"It's the dragon." Calapine says.
"Indeed. I am." Wings sprout from my back, as my tail wiggles and wags itself free.
"No wonder he was so nervous!" The captain yells.
My sharp teeth become visible, as do my eyes. My jaw drops open, as a forked tongue hangs out. The kobolds drop to their knees, their god having returned to them.
"Front and center!" I roar as the Kobolds get into formation. "Your Master has guests over, I want you to treat them with the upmost respect or you might find yourself cleaning the basement. Do I make myself clear?!" I ask.
"Yes, Master!" They reply.
"Good. Now, bring me wine."
I take a drink of the red wine, and swirl it around in my mouth before swallowing.
"Wistom! Come here!" I yell.
A kobold comes in.
"Yes, Master?" He asks.
"Update me on what's been happening here since my departure." I say.
"Yes, sir. The Kobolds have been working on the mines. We've uncovered more caverns, some human remains, and a lot of gems and ore."
"Is that all?"
"Yes, sir."
"You did nothing else while I was gone?"
"No, sir. We were keeping the mines safe in your absence."
"Alright, get someone to bring my guests some of our food, if you please." I say with a bow and Wistom returns the gesture, "Of course sir."
"By the gods, look at you go straight to 'sir' and 'please'..." Calapine says.
"I know, it's very surprising to you. Your little shy cleric was a dragon all along." I chuckle.
The room goes quiet as the guests says nothing. While I doubt they believe me, they probably are slightly scared that I'm telling the truth.
"And I would like to personally apologize to you, for lying." I say.
"It doesn't matter, your trickery was very... Effective. You even convinced me." Captain Ripan says.
"I had to keep a low profile, keep my story believable, and saying anything about a 'good dragon' will turn heads." I reply.
"Hrm, well you've convinced me, at least. Seeing an actual dragon has... Made me rethink some things."
"Good. I wish to hear your solution to our problem."
"Our problem?"
"The Empire is still a problem, I'm still employed, aren't I?" I ask, winking.
"Yes, you are."
"Good. Is there some sort of plan to deal with them then?"
"We're just going to try to hold out."
"Hey, Wistom, did you get those reports from Signis yet?" I ask him through telepathy.
"Yes, I did, and they're not good sir."
"What do they say?"
"I placed a clipboard on the side of your throne, just read it, I'm busy with my wife." He tells me.
"Alright, I'll be done soon." I say.
"Great."
I pick up the clipboard, reading through it as I do so.
"Let's see... troop morale low, daily schedules, troop positioning, battle formations, battle plans, oh!" I say, seeing blueprints for something called 'an airship' ... "Hmm... Captain, do you know what a airship is, by any chance?" I ask.
"A airship?" Captain Ripan asks, "I believe I've heard the term before, but no, I do not."
I give a worried expression, "Take a look at these reports I have. This may enlighten you on what's coming." I say, handing the clipboard over.
Captain Ripan reads through it, and after a couple minutes he hands it back to me.
"I'm not sure what to make of this." He admits, his voice taking on a defeated tone.
"This is why the empire is losing, their resources are going into this baby. With it's firepower, your kingdom is in trouble." I say, staring at him.
Captain Ripan sighs, "If I may, dragon?"
"Hmm?"
"What makes you think you can convince me to join, with this evidence?"
"Hmmm... alright, I have a question. How do you think I knew so much about your kingdom, without ever being there?" I ask.
"I have no idea."
"Well, sometimes your kingdom sent a knight to deal with me, so I would pin them down, and go through their memories, eventually I was able to come up with a rough design of your place. I then sent a spy, to join the ranks as a rouge, sending me reports on the same things that are on the clipboard."
"... You saw my reports?" Captain Ripan asks, in slight panic.
"I did, that's how I learned, never once did I see you mention a mole within your kingdom. I'm very impressed by my spy." I say.
"You have... No honor."
"Perhaps, but I'm still standing, and I'm going to make the best out of a bad situation. I'm going to join you."
"I have so many questions. But I'll start with one, how did you send messages?" Calapine asks.
"Oh, we trained moles. We had them dig a tunnel there, then when we wanted to send a message, we would feed and give them the message, then they would go through the tunnel back to the other side. Clever, and can't be detected with magic." I say, smiling.
"Forgive my skepticism, but how do we know you aren't lying?"
I flick my tounge and a mole pops out. "Meet your mole. Literally." I laugh.
