And the Alcubierre warp drive is a real-world hypothesis about a possible working warp drive that may be feasible in the realm of near-future technology. Something about compacting space-time ahead of the ship, making a "pull", while expanding space-time behind the ship, making a "push", so you kind of make the ship ride like a surfboard on this wave you made in the fabric of space.

My explanation is horrible but I was going to use a version of it for some civilizations' ships in Empires, so I've been keeping an amateur's eye on the development.
