A tad off-model (primarily Koops), but no one is perfect.
I have a theory about Vivian's true gender, that being she/he is gender-neutral. Vivian is a shadow, and a shadow doesn't have a true identity unless it is labeled by the individual who wields it. Being that Vivian is a shadow with no living individual to wield her (referring Vivian as a "girl" right now to not dehumanize her/him), she drifts around the world lacking a true gender-identity. She is dubbed a "boy" or "girl" so as to give him/her a sense of identity (as false as it may be) so she doesn't wander around the world in torment thinking about what he/she may be. But that's a theory.
