Mary never got to know her birth parents, they were turned into fur coats before she could speak. Despite the species difference, Mary treats her step dad like her real one and appreciates everything he's done for her. He is aware of her inability to age, but treats her as a (mostly) normal kid and treats her like his own, even if she can be a handful sometimes.
