some backstory;
WotC came out with these big beautiful Dark Sun books, which I can't afford of course, but I can gaze longingly at them in the store (I remember gazing longingly at 2e Dark Sun books I couldn't afford, too. Hm).
I like the postapocalyptic, Mad-Max-D&D-with-bug-part-armor look of Dark Sun, but kinda wished the art in the books had more reference to actual tropical/subtropical cultures. Since I've been trying to learn more about concepting, inking and that stuff, I figured that it was a pretty cool "sandbox to play in."
i keep drawing out these guys, too, off and on - they're a lot less energy intensive than anything else I'm working on. I figured furry types would most like to see it if I drew any Dray (dragonborn), but there's more up on my Deviant gallery, at;

Both 3.5 and 4e have dragonborn.
But where 3.5 dragonborn are a niche group - champions of the draconic gods, who willingly undergo a transformation to have their bodies remade as dragony people (do I hear members of the audience masturbating at top speeds? The book where this showed up included an especially fetish-fodder painting) - 4e dragonborn are a core race. In the PHB, where each race entry lists out why you might want to try them, the entry for dragonborn practically comes out and says "play a dragonborn if you want to look really cool."
Dark Sun's interpretation of dragonborn is that they're "Dray," descended from created soldiers of Dark Sun's dragon kings. More fetish fodder - Dark Sun dragons are humans who managed to become dragons through magic and, in a world where wizards are hated and persecuted, they're so utterly badass that nobody even tries to take them out.
