Hi, I'm Hailbop and I have an Ionytrix addiction. Hi Hailbop.
Anyway, happy birthday

Video walkthrough: http://www.vimeo.com/14773621
This all started with this picture of Io tearing its eye out to get a better look at it.
I wondered if Io's eye would keep on blinking, even after it had been removed. Maybe if zie left it somewhere it would continue hypnotizing anyone who looked into it, encouraging them to try it on before assimilating them into the planet-mind.
I made a little animation of what I though the eye would look like (which turned out to be completely wrong XD) and sent it off to Farore, who kindly pointed me in the right direction. I fixed it and was going to stop there, but then I realized I had parts for an arduino clone and some LED's floating around and a 3D printer in my basement... >.>
This is the final product, completed a few days later (don't you just love rapid prototyping?). I've loved dekatrons ever since I was a kid watching 50's B-movies, now I've got a fancy semiconductor version from another galaxy!
I can't be the only one who want's one of these things, so I opensourced the entire project complete with build manifest, source code and STL models here on thingiverse, the open repository of printable 3d objects. If anyone feels like making their own Eye of Ionytrix, go ahead, the hive loves company!
The cool thing about this design is that the center of the eye is hollow, so theoretically you could build three of these with white mesh instead of semi-opaque paper and attach them onto a white latex fursuit with a bubble helmet and ohmygodohmygodohmygod <3
