The Planet Earth in Cycles
cairyn gave me some advice on the renders, and that got rid of the problem I had with Cycles renders in Blender. For a Film that was completed in 2017, I generated a planet in 3ds Max, using 8K maps. So this year I tried to use the same maps and methodology, however Blender does things differently, and I have not yet found a way to mix materials using light and shadow, like you could in 3dsMax. But the render looks great, as it is. Say Hello to the Planet Earth. At some point I will have to make exterior shots with mountains and buildings, soon. We'll see.

It's clunkier than paid software, but the addition of Compositing, Sculpting, Simulations, and how the renderer handles emissive material lighting, means that it is more capable than some of the paid packages. The simulations may not be as advanced as Houdini, but they are close, and if one messes with it long enough, they can come up with competitive results. Looking forward to getting back into animation and character making, as well as hard surface aviation modeling.
