Procedural Planet in Blender
Following various tutorials I did one for generating procedural ( as opposed to mapped( planets in Blender. Back when I was using 3ds Max I loved making planets. In blender the procedure is similar, but of course different, due to the different interface. There are many many tutorials on making planets in Blender, but this one seems to produce the best results (so far). However some of the instructions have been obsoleted by changes in the materials interface. (such as red no no lines between nodes in the editor, now). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6224Wisxwxc&list=PLIvxMJcx6i3uymASMC76vg4pvtkhCWfNz&index=173&t=1353s&ab_channel=DanielGrovePhoto
However when rendering the planet out, Blender has two native renderers, Cycles, and Eevee. I rendered the planet out in both. Same Camera, same resolution, but got different results, and different render errors. Cycles gives the best results, as the cloud layer above the planet's surface applies shadows to it. It also have the best transition from sun side to shadow side. However it's error was a "ring" of shadow on the surface in the direction of the sun. Eevee, was much faster to render, almost real time, and have results only slightly les than Cycled, however the edge of the shaded side of the surface and the siunward side was a little less distinct, and the edge on clouds of the cloud layer were an unshaded, and bright white. For the Blender heads out there , are there any ways to resolve these errors, or is it just a product of CPU rendering, because my graphics card is ancient trash? Inquiring Minds want to know..
