To add further insult to injury, I could imagine your stately merc could have lasted another 200,000 miles on said original motor with hardly a sign of distress.
Same could not be said about that poor beamer owner. Beamers usually go for a good what? 35k miles worth from the factory? after which they're basically scrap?

180K on the one Dad and I had, we were the second owners. Do the maintenance and don't drive like an asshat and they do lost. Manual mode on the automatic transmission was interesting. Switch to that and you sure had a lot more power.. we found it was easy to hit 120mp on the highway - was hard to notice on the long straight stretch from Flagstaff to Winslow on I 40... Surprised DPS didn't send us a ticket - they run aircraft with radar along that road
Heh, had a 1995 325I convertible for a number of years - Dad drove it mostly till he couldn't get in and out of it due to arthritus. Got it at a dealership I worked for 16 years ago. They gave some yuppies from Scottsdale only 5 grand trade in value on it towards an Escalade. Swapped a pickup for it and we had a lot of fun with the car. Ended up buying a used hard top for it - the rag top wore out. Was still running good but a few repairs were going to cost more than it was worth. Traded it towards a Kia Optima that he drove till he passed 2 years ago.
I was so enthused by the "HEY!" to "Meh..." reviews of "No time to die" that I was ready and set to run out and plunk over $200.00 to get the Deluxe "Creator" Lego set to build that Austin-Martin spy car because it had all the "Gadgets" in it including the retractable Gatling Guns.
Then, I thought of these guys.
The Holidays are coming, and packages are getting set up to get mailed.
