Today we're getting a bit dark to commemorate the halfway point of Inktober; this here is Ted Lavender, a secondary character from Tim O'Brien's critically acclaimed novel The Things They Carried, which is slowly becoming one of my favorites. The character is a scared one, and has to take tranquilizers and what is described in the novel as, "premium dope" to cope with the horrors of war. And at one point he snags a puppy!
The dark part comes in when you've actually read the novel. It doesn't take much longer than the first chapter to realize that Ted here has an unfortunate end.
