Reflection (by SajoPhoe)
YCH from the talented
sajophoe!
Worthless.
I looked down into the glassy surface of the small, perfectly circular pond, at the broken dragon who stared back up at me. I had travelled far from the icy tundra, but I could still hear the beast's roar in my mind. I just wanted to prove something to myself. I just wanted to know that I was strong enough, able enough. That I didn't need magic to be a dragon, to live and be strong. But I couldn't even do that.
Broken.
Almost unconsciously, I felt around the ruins of my horn. Well, now at least I looked as broken as I was. It was only right, really. I was always a broken dragon. Now it was plain as day, right there on my head, for anyone to see. My most immediately striking feature, a testament to my own weakness.
The dragon in the water stared back up at me, uncaring. What must it be like, to be but a reflection, a shadow of someone with an actual life to live? To look like someone born with potential, someone who could change the world, someone who could be known, respected, feared or loved, while you're just...there. Existing, if nothing else.
I growled and swiped the reflection away. I couldn't look at it any more. That at least was the one thing I had power over.

Every hero goes through moments of peaks and valleys. The monumental efforts that lead to triumphs sometimes have to start with those tragic moments that build character and create something from the fires of strife
Those low moments of your youth where you felt you had nothing left of yourself, they're all parts of the fire that builds you up into how you are now
You would not be you without the experience and scars you gained

Some words I've heard from an old legend:
"No matter how sad you are, eventually your tears will dry up. That's when you have to figure out what it is you're living for. Then you can cling to that, with all your might, and start moving forward again."
Everyone has their demons that haunt them relentlessly. Uselessly clinging onto the past only brings more misery; it's how you learn from the past that lets you grow, and carve out a better future. That said, if you ever need a shoulder to cry on, I double as an emotional support derg. Just say the word.

Broken? No, you've achieved more than thousands of other magical dragons, through sheer strength and an unbreakable will.
Look at those other magical ones, what did they achieve? Did they save lives and whole towns? Did they make themselves a true hero? No, they just "existed around" allowing the convenience of their magic to carry them, it made them lazy. Many would break and succumb to the cruelty of the world if they were in your situation, but you were left unbroken, not only surviving, but achieving more than greatness, and you are still young! Look at all those adventures you've had, think how much more you could achieve with all the time you have!
What I see is a strong warrior with enough courage to go against all odds to save anyone or anything in need, with a good heart, damaged by the events of his youth out of which a true hero was born, don't look at the 3 things supposedly wrong with you, look at everything else and you'll be amazed, it's about perspective, you are the only one seeing yourself as worthless and broken, if you stop thinking so, nobody in the world will think so, you are worth entire cities of lives you saved and more.
Do you think that those who survived thanks to your shield see you as weak and worthless?
Would any of them call you broken? No, so why do you?
There is a saying, if you start on top of the ladder there is only one way to go, you started near the bottom, and you as well have only one way to go.

Broken... That may be true. But what is broken, can be repaired. Put back together. Re-forged into something Better, something Sturdier, something... Glorious.
Worthless... That is the name for those who gives up the fight, after getting knocked down ONCE or TWICE!. But you Arix, you who have been fed the dirt more times then non on some occasions if not all the time. Have always stood back up with sword and shield in hand, ready to fight!. You don't NEED magic!. You don't NEED Fancy gear and gadgets!. And you Definitely don't NEED the help of the Devine or Unholy!... To be Great and Mighty.
For all you Need, and what makes you who you are... *Pokes your chest with a finger* ...Is your heart. And the willpower to face the Darkness without Fear.

You wouldn't know good from bad if you didn't have both, and they are both present, at all times, everywhere. The memory of the old you fuels your strength today. Those that truly know pain, know that the pain never really fades away, but rather changes its purpose in one's life. Or better said, the person themselves finds the strength to change. You were born without power, but being born with power also brings responsibility and your path is therefore predefined. You don't seem like the kind of dude that wants a life like that :p I'd say you would have been the same hero, with or without magic. I don't know you, so maybe I'm wrong but that's what my intuition is telling me.
Hard to say indeed. But you have a good heart, no doubt about that! Sometimes I like to think about what things would have been like in different circumstances. Still, life manages to surprise me all the time. You never know what comes next. We can speculate, but that's about it. One has to be ready!
