Gale Tattersall (google it) contacted me after finding one of my business cards stuck to a Dick Blick billboard. Apparently he had a Canon workshop/studio being built next door and he wanted someone to visualize the rundown alley next to it as a relaxation space. The focus wasn't on strict accuracy, but trying to match the atmosphere he had in mind as close as possible. Even so, I think this is probably one of my better examples of architectural work (I don't usually work with such strict geometric shapes, preferring the organic anatomy of natural landscapes).
Original features were pretty much just the building on the left, the trees at the far far back, and the surrounding wall and that's pretty much it (even the shed is added). Even the covering is different than their current state as Gale wanted a sort of stucco/plaster texture with faux wear on the walls revealing brick beneath.
You can find Tattersall's new studio/workshop at 11517 1/2 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles, CA. It's currently under renovation, but it should be up and running soon as an educational place for those interested in cinematic and still photography. The man himself is very nice, offered me some excellent British tea .
I used this as an opportunity to really play with color and mess with a more impressionist style, a feel I favor whenever I do real media paintings. I've been taking advantage of the toolsets and custom brushes I've found via DA. If you want to know what I've been using, just check here http://esda06.deviantart.com/favourites/#Brushes. I use many of those fairly regularly (the toolset one especially).
Speed painting, completed in about 5 hours using only Photoshop CS4.

One of the few perks about living in Los Angeles is that it's almost inevitable that you'll run into someone intimately involved in Hollywood. The density of creative types is astounding. Even if you meet someone who ISN'T in the film business, they probably are related or friends with someone who is.
I've heard about the almost overwhelming about of 'artsy' 'alternafolk' in that area, which is almost enough to warrant a move there. Though I have heard many negative things about that area :/
It just sounds so neat to be in that environment though. I bet you had a blast with Mr. Tattersall.

Well let me put it this way; all that bitching about the environment and the poor and blah blah in LA? It's first hand experience. It's polluted, often ugly, and the wealth gap is fairly obvious. Just try to find a middle class neighborhood that's not sub-upper or upper-middle. It's VERY expensive to live out here. You live here because of your field, not because it's all that great.
That's glazing over a lot of good (there's perks in any city) but ideally I'd live just outside of LA or further north towards San Francisco. San Fran is awesome.

I miss California. My boyfriend, his sister and I plan on moving there in a couple years because his sister and I want to go to the same college. Well see tho. Haha. I've no idea about costs and things like that. Were gonna have to save for a while.
I rly like the feel of this. It rly says Cali to me, the way it feels whenever I visit.
I live in Florida now, and we don't have alleys like that. I rly miss it. Hahaha.
