STORY TIME!
Inside the forest mountains, a chespin and froakie traverse the intimidating nature of towering trees and big rocks that stand before them, fragments of shade and sunlight cover the entire area. Chespin and froakie planned to meet their other friends at a gathering on the open hills just past this mountain range. To save an hour of walking, they decided to go on an old and seemingly abandoned forest path through the tall woods. "Hey froakie, how long until we get to the valley", chespin asks. "If we walk along this old path we should make it there in less than an hour perhaps", froakie answers. "Perhaps huh", chespin retorts. The two awkwardly converse with each other while treading, neither being the conversationalist, and thats when it appeared...a dilapidated structure in the form of a traditional gate stood before them.
It looked decades old and was extremely worn from age and neglect yet endured it's ruin and never exactly collapsed on itself. Upon seeing this, chespin and froakie were struck with awe for a moment. "Holy chestnuts. How old is this thing", chespin expresses. "I don't know but it's best not to question it", froakie utters. The two were so focused on the structure's physiognomy they didn't notice her sitting in front of the gateway. "WOAH WHO'S THAT", chespin startles. "Strange, I didn't notice her presence until now", froakie claims.
A ninetales became apparent to them on late notice. She was stilling herself in a silent manner staring straight at them. "Um...hello", chespin tries to greet her. "...". "How are you today". "...". The ninetales remains quiet and still in her position. "What are you doing here on this path", froakie asks. "...". The two continue to break the eerie silence surrounding her but to no avail. "It seems she won't respond to anything we say. How uncanny", froakie states. "Not to mention she's sitting in front of the gate like a guard rowlithe", chespin adds. The two become more uneasy as she blankly stares at them. "We should just...pass her", froakie suggests and chespin consents nervously. They attempt to slowly stride around her and pass the gate, on their guard, but then a paw makes contact and pushes them back. The two are surprised by the sudden action. "Hey, why'd you do that", chespin anxiously asks. "...". No response. They try to pass her again but she blocks them once more, in any way they proceed. No matter how many times they go at it the ninetales forbids them from progressing through the gate. They realize the futilness of their efforts, back away and begin to suspect her.
"Why won't she let us through. This is getting frustrating", froakie expresses. "I don't know but I REALLY don't want to walk for another hour on the long path right now so we can't give up yet", chespin states. The two try to figure out a way to pass her until froakie comes up with the thought of just reasoning with her. She may not speak but she could listen to them. Froakie comes up to her and explains their reason for taking the short path, "basically, we're wanting to save time on our journey to the valley that is at the end of this short cut or we would have to be traveling for another hour. Do you understand". "...", the ninetales dosen't reply to froakie's explanation. Froakie assumes she was listening and tries to pass her once more but is stopped by her paw. Froakie gets confused and slightly irritated by her apparent ignorance, but then suddenly hears her stomach rumbling softly but sternly for a moment, hinting him at a possibility. He heads back to chespin to tell what happened. "So she ignored you and still didn't let you pass but then you heard her stomach", chespin inquires. "Yeah, she must be hungry. Mabye if we offer some food she'll let us through" froakie assumes.
Chespin developes an idea and heads out to look for the berry bush he saw earlier while walking and picks the berries to give to the ninetales. He lays them out before her and watches to see if she would eat them. At first she's unresponsive to his offer and dosen't look at them but then bends downward and gorges on them however still remaining speechless. Chespin feels satisfied that she ate the berries, thinking that was the solution, and tries to go through the gate but is blocked off by her once again, refusing passage. He becomes disappointed at that second and walks back to froakie in a sad manner. "Cmon, I gave her berries and she ate them but still wouldn't let me through", chespin laments. The two begin losing their patience and froakie starts to strategize a plan that will deal with her effectively. He discusses it with chespin.
"Are you sure thats gonna work", chespin asks. "Yes, as long as we follow every single step, we should keep her attention away from the gate enough to sneak by her", froakie assures. "We tried ignoring her, reasoning with her, and offering her food; none of it worked. So let's try distracting her", froakie adds. Chespin agrees to the plan and they begin laying the ground work.
...
Time passes by and the two are nowhere to be seen in their usual spot in front of the ninetales yet she stays in her silent character. Out of nowhere, chespin comes walking straight to her holding several chestnuts and wears an innocent but mischievous smile on his face, the ninetales watches and notices that froakie isn't with him. He gets closer and closer to her, lays the chestnuts before her, and walks a few feet away from her, standing there in a quiet tone. The ninetales glares at the chestnuts intensely until...smoke shots out from them, covering the whole area around the gate within a minute. The smoke was dense enough to cloud the ninetales' vision and conceal chespin's presence. However, among the smoke screen, a certain pokemon was able to see through and begun his part of the plan.
The ninetales could barely see anything in the fog but she sensed two figures pacing beside her and struck them, however she felt them hard and brittle. She didn't know what she'd hit and decided to blow away the smoke with her many tails. It took several seconds for the smoke to clear the area only to reveal she caught...a log and a rock. She immediately looked around for the two that had seemingly disappeared, only to spot them heading towards the gate at full speed, froakie's plan had worked. The plan was for froakie to hide himself within the area and wait for the perfect moment while chespin baited her with chestnuts laced with a thick smoke that clouded her vision and thats when froakie takes chespin and ran to the gate, replacing their presences with substitutes that kept her distracted long enough to get out of her reach and run past the gateway. Froakie had put his amateur ninja skills to use and chespin put his trust and act into the plan.
Freedom was within their reach and chespin and froakie were satisfied over their efforts...however, the ninetales catches up to them in a flash with her significantly greater speed and strikes them back the other way with considerable force. Their faces of satisfaction were replaced with pure shock, the ninetales had reached them in no time and broke their pace. The two were back where they started. Froakie didn't account for her possible greater skill and quick-witted aptitude. She sat back in front of the gate once more and glared at them in her usual silent manner. Chespin and froakie looked back at her in disappointment and frustration over the fact their plan had failed in a rather anticlimactic way.
The two were at their wit's end, their plan had worked...only for a moment, and then was utterly crushed. "What gives, we put everything thing into that plan", chespin fusses. "Sorry chespin, I consider her skill and cleverness", froakie regrets. "It's fine, I know you tried your best. We both did. If only riolu were here, we would for sure win", chespin states. "I wouldn't say that but we would have a significant chance at beating her with him by our side, considering his strength. It's possible he could match her in combat from what we experienced", froakie corrects him. Froakie sits there immensely puzzled, trying to come up with another idea, while chespin glares at her, becoming more angered by her nonsense. He aggravates himself until he suddenly dashes toward her blindly, preparing an attack. "RAAHH!!!". "Chespin wait", froakie yells.
Chespin runs up and throws bomb seeds directly at her in an attempt to damage her, "TAKE THIS!". The bomb seeds get within inches of her, but the ninetales uses flamethrower to blow them up beforehand. Chespin gets within the range of the flamethrower, heading towards him, however froakie quickly shoots a small water shuriken at it to cancel each other out. He manages to hit it, saving chespin from major harm but chespin brushes off the backlash and continues to run toward her at full speed, proceeding to blindly tackle her. Froakie speeds himself up and runs past chespin and stops just beside him and the ninetales to prevent him any further violence. Chespin stops in his track just infront of froakie but the ninetales strikes froakie on impulse, grabs him with one of her tails, and tightly holds him in place. Chespin jumps backwards. Froakie had saved him just in the nick of time, only to get ensnared by her instead.
"FROAKIE!". Chespin was shocked to see his friend get caught by the peculiar kitsune. She sat there binding froakie with her tails, quietly observing everything. Chespin stared at her anxiously. "Froakie, are you okay?", chespin asks. "I'm alright, she didn't hurt me so badly but it looks like she won't let go any time soon. Don't do anything right now. You could provoke her. Stay there", froakie asserts. Chespin didn't know what to do so he stood there worried and waited for an opportunity to come. Moments pass and froakie is still restrained by the ninetales and chespin remains there still concerned for his friend but suddenly, the ninetales lifts up froakie to her head, she looks at him and...opens her mouth. Chespin and froakie become stunned as she attempts to shove him into her gaping maw. She gently but assertively pushes him in while trying to watch out for the teeth. "FROAKIE!", chespin screams. Her tails let go of him as he's in her throat and her strong throat muscles help her in swallowing the little pokemon whole. A couple gulps and froakie reaches her stomach, forming a little bulge in the process.
Chespin witnessed the whole event with horrid eyes. He weeps, "WHY DID YOU DO THAT! GIVE HIM BACK!", chespin wails. "...", no answer. The ninetales continues to sit there in silence even after she just ate froakie, staring at the sobbing pokemon from the loss of his friend. Chespin goes up to her, not to attack, but to check on his friend. "FROAKIE, ARE YOU OKAY IN THERE? SAY SOMETHING PLEASE". At first he hears nothing but then froakie struggles to say something due to feeling lightheaded from being striked and now swallowed into the ninetales' humid belly. "I-I'm o-kay, I think, just a little...hurt is all. Forget about me chespin, y-you should just go. I think there's nothing you can...do now". After hearing those words, chespin dreaded on the fact that froakie saved him from being reckless and ended up in this outcome because of him. He looks at the ninetales who gazes at him back and gets desperate. "I'm sorry. I'm very sorry for what we did. We never should've crossed you. Please, give him back", chespin begs. "...". "Whatever game you're making us play, you win. You win alright. Just let me see him again", chespin begs. Interpreting his response, the ninetales leans close to him and opens her maw once more, gently biting on chespin's head to pick him up and began swallowing him down like she did with froakie, gulping him down in less than a minute. "AHHHHHHH", chespin screams. He meets froakie down in her stomach covered in digestive juices along with him. The ninetales belly bulges slightly more from the added morsel. Chespin and froakie were together again but under different circumstances this time.
The two sit there in fear and trepidation over what's to come next as the ninetales' stomach churns and groans, beginning to fill with digestive fluids. Chespin and froakie spend their seemingly last moments together before it becomes the end for them. Meanwhile, the sun begins to set for the day and ninetales remains posted before the gate, quiet as ever, but with a full belly. However, after several minutes, the ninetales unexpectedly stands up, slowly walks through the other end of the old gate, and proceeds to vomit the two out. They both come out pretty easily, a little paralyzed by the sudden development. She begins to lick them in an attempt to wake them up. They regain consciousness and wonder if they're in the afterlife but then they see the ninetales and immediately get on their best guard, preparing for anything coming to them. "Eww gross", chespin revolts. "What do you want with us now", froakie asks. Froakie notices they were strangley on the other side of the gate. He calms himself down and confronts the ninetales. "Why did you eat us and then puke us out, allowing us to pass now", froakie asks. "...", the ninetales dosen't answer. "Nevermind, in the end, you still won't answer us, will you", froakie says in a disappointed tone. "Mabye she just felt guilty for what she did", chespin supposes. The ninetales just stands there staring at them. Either way, let's just get out of here. I don't want to stick around this place any longer", froakie states. And with that, chespin and froakie head off on the shortcut to the valleys, slightly traumatized by their encounter with the ninetales. "You know what I learned? It's that you should always check yourself before you do anything reckless. And to be aware of your surroundings", chespin expresses. "Yeah. Well I learned that type advantages aren't everything and that you should consider your opponent's skill and aptitude as well", froakie adds. "Thats really perceptive of you", chespin compliments. "Btw, you know that ninetales is following us", froakie mentions. "Wha-AAAHHH", chespin startles.
The ninetales has been following them behind for a while now. "Why is she following us", chespin asks. "I don't know. Mabye we met her "standards" somehow and she accepted us as companions now", froakie assumes. "Come to think of it, why was she sitting at that gate, all alone", chespin wonders. "I don't know, I think she was acting autonomous with the gate or something, waiting for someone to "test". I actually don't want to think about anything else for the day", froakie utters. Chespin happily complies and looks back at the ninetales with a wondrous expression. "Come on buddy, let's go see our friends, wait till they see how awesome you are, but...please don't eat us again", chespin says. "...". And with that, the two head off to the valleys and met a new, odd friend along the way when wanting to just take a shortcut. This new encounter will change how they see things and help them grow into better pokemon. They also learned that sometimes, taking the long path wouldn't exactly be so bad after all if its to avoid PTSD.
