I know, I love the look of the old Noirs - 'Curse of the Cat People' is a good example of B&W on the cheap. A really beautiful B&W is Stanley Kubrick's 1957 'Paths of Glory' I highly recommend that one. Every frame is nearly perfect. Kubrick make 'Dr Strangelove' in '64 also B&W.
