While the Greater Gworp serves as the elephant of Vogelheim, the Mammoth Bird serves as the giraffe analog. These giant birds dwell at the edges of forests and swamps towards the northern part of the continent, within the warmer, temperate climate zone.
Mammoth Birds use their impressive height to reach sources of food inaccessible to other ground-dwelling birds. They are gentle giants whose size protects them against most predators.
The hot pink sack on the bird's neck serves as both a display structure as well as a sound amplifier. This allows the Mammoth Birds to communicate over long distances by making deep booming sounds, similar to those made by ostriches.
