Listening to a bit too much Starset - Solstice, which I would say is the inspiration for this picture but frankly this scene was written for and published before I heard this song. Love the song though, and it's a perfect companion for the scene.
Featured is one of the lead Forces, Summer (left) and the Aon, Fatality. Spoiler alert, but you really should read the book anyway because this explanation is so weird and hard to figure out how it gets there... Anyway, Fatality enters limbo to save the deceased Summer and limbo literally crawls. Went unnoticed before, only because Fatality's gleaming light aura kept it at bay. This image is the struggle of trying to get Summer out of there, which at one point gets so bad even Summer has to try to be a glimmer of hope despite being a fire wielder and not as innately brilliant as the Aon.
Lots of bloom in the picture, which annoys me, but keeping to plot theme that there are two light sources and that is it, so this image is mostly about lighting work and applying it. Second time I've drawn Summer, really should draw the other characters more often rather than just the titular Fatality. But have an actual scene for once, so thus am not personally complaining. Also, love playing with Summer's cinnamon curls. Her hair is so floof.
