Tial certainly wouldn't deserve that regardless of how much of a disciplinarian they might be or how many scoldings or lectures they might give. Even with the lasers being nonlethal if that's a high powered one and Tial's getting shot repeatedly especially once unconscious I imagine they could eventually die of shock.
Far too extreme and cruel and for assaulting a superior officer, I think Tir and Wa'al would deserve a lengthy term in the brig.
