Eggman has discovered an alternate universe where the outcome of Sonic Adventure was very different. He prevailed, and was able to build Robotnikland on the ruins of Station Square after all! This world is where Eggman would like to retire...after eliminating Sonic once and for all!
Metal Sonic also finally catches up to the plot. I sure had trouble fitting him into this story, but I guess it's fitting he meet Sonic here at the end.
