To the southwest of Arcadia, there is another landmass known as "Vogelheim", a smaller continent dominated mostly by avian creatures. This continent is self is within the temperate and cold climate zones, with forests and swamps in the northern part and cold grasslands further south. The further south you go, the less plant life can be found.
On the border between grassland and forest, where the climate is colder, live the Gworps: massive herbivorous birds which travel the land in small groups. The most impressive species of Gworps is the Greater Gworp, a bird that serves the same ecological role as elephants do on the plains of Africa. Weighing up to 6 tons, these creatures have very little to fear, as there are very few creatures who would dare to attack an adult individual.
The name 'Gworp' comes from the distinct, deep sounds these birds produce in order to communicate over large distances.

nah dude, the biology doesn't really fit :P
Big Bird clearly has an elongated beak and powerful forelimbs. That, and his forward-facing eyes are in stark contrast to the Gworp, which has eyes closer to the sides of its head and very minuscule wings.
plus, according to official sources, Big Bird is supposed to be a giant canary and gworps... those are a completely separate lineage
