There were a few controlled burns where I'm at; at the mountain visible from the valley I live in. You could see the smoldering blaze from far off at night or during the day; big pillars of smoke were erect for several hours and long long into the evening and morning of the next day. If you could see how big this fire was, you'd question whether it was still in fact a controlled burn.
