Back in the '80s, I took a cross-country trip. Among the cities I visited was San Francisco. And there, I visited Alcatraz Island. The name comes from the Spanish word for Pelican, for explorers who discovered the area found many pelicans there. It has been, over the years, a fort guarding the bay, a military prison, and a federal prison, the last one being the most famous...or notorious! It was meant to punish troublemakers in the federal prison system, inmates who tried to escape, make booze, or run gambling operations, or other offenses. The worst inmate ever is said to be Robert Stroud. the "Birdman". Despite the portrayal in the famous movie, he was a depraved, violent, dangerous criminal, although during the "Battle Of Alcatraz", he did save the lives of some of his fellow prisoners. I'm sure Albert Ross ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/23169502/ ) would be afraid of him!
