Power does not creep in this game, it goes to warp speed. A card gets printed and you already know its existence is a mistake.
Some are broken on release and get worse over time, others are overpowered to start, and become more broken with each new release.
Even the restriction list is user primarily to sell new sets, and secondarily to give an illusion of balancing the game so people don't quit.

I'm lucky Cardfight Vanguard has no such things for the dreaded NEGATES!!.........except for Guarding, Locks, Paralysis, Cradle Tokens.....Every single deck that is not Link Joker/Brandt Gate and Megacolony. I've started Yu-Gi-Oh for a year or two and I'm still confused on the effects and timings.
Well they just resettled the game (Again) lets see if third is the charm.
At least the power is manageable an you don't need the whole hand to guard a simple rearguard attack if you don't have a perfect guard in the new version. At least that is what my brother told me. I stopped that one after the stride things. I miss my great nature honorary professor deck.
