You're reminding me a bit of crisis of infinite earths from dc a bit here with the multiple virmirs.
tldr, they find a universe where clark kent didn't become superman, he was just a normal person. they gave him all the superman powers of superman, became a villain. They had to summon the 'og' 40's superman, the one without any power limits to beat him.
