Jask relaxed underneath the oak tree, his large body feeling light in the comfort of the soft grass upon which he lie. He stared out across the waters of the nearby lake, watching as ripples and bubbles played with its surface in a dazzling array of life.
This was the life...
No mons needing help. The world was not in any danger. Heck, not even a single treasure map to be found. Just a moment to kick back and enjoy the shade and the fresh air.
Breathing deeply, the strewn-out Goodra smiled as his tail curled upon itself and the sounds of the endemic life around him played a friendly chorus to his sleepy eyes. It had been two years since he and his friend had been transported into this world of Pokemon and transformed into unfamiliar bodies. Their memories had been wiped, of course, but they knew they had been human at some point. That and their names.
He remembered that it had taken his friend, Rygone, a while to learn how to walk. Compared to the Goodra's familiar bipedal nature, walking on all fours proved to be a challenge for a former human. Especially with that big finned tail of his.
Since then they had been on all sorts of adventures. Helping what Pokemon they could and building a friendly community around their efforts. It was truly a dream come true.
A weight suddenly pressed itself on his belly and Jask craned his neck to see. Staring back at the end of his purple muzzle was a blue face with wide black eyes.
"What are you thinking about?" came the soft purring voice, before he shook his body, spraying water everywhere from his dip in the lake.
Jask held up a paw, trying to keep some of the water away from his face.
"Ahhh you know not to do that on me Rygone!"
The Vaporeon smirked. "And that's why I keep doing it!"
They both laughed as they played through the motions, their years of friendship keeping the larger Pokemon from truly getting mad.
"Soooo what were you thinking about?"
Jask's laughter died away as he gave the question some thought.
"I...was thinking about when we came here and everything that has happened to us since." came his eventual reply, the words calm and almost secretive.
Rygone shuffled closer, his tail thwacking the larger Goodra's belly and tail as he crept forward until they were pressing nose to nose.
"You mean when we were turned into Pokemon?" Rygone whispered back.
Despite the goodwill the two had cultivated, they had never told another soul about their origins. It was a secret that at best would be doubted by those they knew and at worst would be used to target them.
"Yeah..."
Rygone cupped a paw to his chin.
"Why are you thinking about that now? What does it matter?"
"I...I don't know. Just the calm day kinda took my mind there."
The Vaporeon nodded in understanding as his body rose and fell with the Goodra's heavy breaths.
"Do you miss your old life?"
Jask chuckled at the question, knowing it was stated in some jest.
"You know I don't. Neither of us can remember it!"
Rygone smiled "Then give it some thought later. I came over to tell you that Mrs. Mightyena just finished baking a batch of pies and she wants us to have some for helping her out the other day."
At the mention of food Jask's two antennas stood up, his attention immediately captured.
"Pies you say..."
"Yep! And they are your faaavooorite"
"Augh fine you make a good argument. I'll get up, but first... let's just lay here for a few more minutes okay?"
"Why?"
Jask grinned as he booped the Vaporeon's startled nose. "Because it's nice. You need to get out of the water more and just enjoy being with company every once in a while."
Rygone chuckled. "Fine fine, you've made your point. We can cuddle."
Nuzzling together they both settled back down. A Vaporeon resting atop of his friend, a Goodra.
And they were content.
