Introducing: Zane
Artist's Note: Trying to find an audience for a wrestling character is something of a creative kamikaze. Most people will see it and go right into their preconceived notions about wrestling, which haven't been updated for after 1987, or your audience is limited to the guys who don't so much care about what you're doing with the character and just think the height of eroticism is big sweaty men in tights squeezing each other's bulges. But my entire artistic identity is built on ill-fated endeavors, so let's just try and get this guy over anyway, hm?
This is Zane. Zane likes video games a whole lot. He also likes cartoons and comics. And, Zane really loves professional wrestling. Let's find out a little more about him.
In an industry often defined by characters presented as tough or intimidating, Zane knew that his natural personality and his size would prevent him from every being credibly perceived in such a way. Rather than presenting himself as a world-beater crawling over the bodies of his opponents en route to the top, he opted to go in another direction. It's often said in wrestling that the best gimmicks tend to be the wrestler's actual personally turned up to 11. In this case, Zane cast aside his otherwise somewhat shy personality and instead presented a vision of himself reflected in his love for his various hobbies, in particular, video games and animation. Zane went to work crafting an on-screen character that would combine the infectious, genuine kindness of his true self with the intrepid, young protagonists of his favorite games and shows to create a persona that would go on to become one of the most effortlessly sympathetic and over babyfaces anywhere in the world. However, while Zane's persona is a large part of his success in connecting with the fans, his second-to-none prowess between the ropes earned him not only their cheers but also the respect of fans and mat veterans alike.
A lifelong fan of wrestling, Zane endeavored to learn every style, variety, and discipline of the craft that he could, a veritable sponge of information, soaking up the wisdom and knowledge of every single industry legend he was ever privileged enough to work with. Simply put, there is virtually no style of wrestling Zane cannot perform, although his main style is a mixture of technical mat wrestling and joint manipulation as well as Eastern strong-style, focused heavily in strikes, in particular, kicking. Throughout his exploits all over the world, Zane became known as a submission expert. To put in simply, Zane will skip jubilantly down to the ring, hug his fans along the way, smile warmly at his opponent, and then proceed to absolutely break them, utilizing his powerful rabbit's legs to ensnare an opponent's limbs into torturous positions, winning most of his matches by tap-out. In addition to his submission repertoire, Zane is very adept with suplex maneuvers and is an expert of utilizing leverage to lift opponents even twice his size. Another thing Zane's opponents must be extremely careful of are his kicks, which some have described as 'sledgehammers to the chest.' Zane wears leg guards both to prevent from injuring himself from his own offense and also to avoid inflicting serious injuries to his opponents, as an unprotected, full-powered kick from a full-grown buck in his athletic prime could prove catastrophic, or even fatal, if it were to land just so.
Zane's outward persona is that of a playful, approachable, and above all else, relateable young buck who is just as excited as the fans are about his experiences and successes in the ring. As he looks around the arena and takes in the atmosphere of the live crowd, he exudes a humble jubilation that seems to imply that even he can't believe this is really happening, even after years in the business. He often approaches the ring with a kind of 'spring' in his step, or perhaps some kind of light-hearted dance, making it clear that every individual match is a dream come true. He will, however, take on a more solemn disposition in big-match situations, making a more focused walk to the ring.
Zane utilizes references and themes from various video games and animated shows in his persona, moves, and promos. He's frequently seen backstage playing on a portable console or perhaps even a full-sized console, joined by allies. He may even occasionally be shown competing against an adversary on one of his favorite games in a bit of a humorous segment. Zane's love of video game themes is especially apparent in the music which introduces him. Zane is famous for convincing various video game composers and companies to allow the use of some of their best-known tracks which will play Zane out to the ring during bigger shows. Moreover, Zane's own entrance music was composed by retired gaming composer Hoji Okada and commissioned by Zane himself. Zane's theme, Hero Through Stars, is one of the most recognizable entrance themes in the wrestling world.

Despite Zane's apparently gentle demeanor, his opponents must underestimate him at their own risk. Trained by the industry's most feared shooters, Zane has the capacity to break just about every bone in an opponent's body if he had a mind to and is an expert at inflicting pain. While not arrogant, Zane is not entirely humble either, and will not hesitate to correct anybody who shows disrespect toward he or his abilities. When pushed, he can and will reveal a vicious streak that will catch an overconfident opponent off guard, to punishing results.
Zane has an unmatched connection with the fans and thanks to his craft in the ring and the dedication to his character outside of it, he is one of the most over wrestlers in the world. He hopes you will have a blast at his next bout.

Yes, I find that people do like their stomach folds, don't they. It's consistent with the build I pictured for him, as somebody who's body is toned more organically through the work they do instead of chiseled through a strict gym/roids regimen.
It's my intent to make him a more complex, better produced, full-length theme song some time soon, provided I don't get discouraged some time between now and when my Yamaha arrives, which is already a pretty big if.
