Closing up September and going for October I want to tease you all with a little idea for a project. Alola set in Edo-period Japan. It works incredibly well. The setting would be much grimmer than the original. I'm not even sure if pokemon are present yet. I already have something in mind for other characters, but for now, let's focus on Plumeria.
Plumeria was a noble lady of a prestigious family. She was energic and athletic since she was young, but due to her having to learn etiquette, she had to hide this part of herself. Her past kept coming up whenever she was unable to satisfy the standards of those around her, and this kept building up till the day of her wedding. When her arrogant groom eventually confessed his dissatisfaction with her, she murdered him. Running away from home, she lost her way in the mountains. Away from her home, family, friends, she cried and shouted, and ultimately wished for death. That was when the roaming ronin Guzman, himself banished by the shogun, found her. He trained her into a restless assassin and made her join the Dokuro-dan (髑髏団), his personal army. Because of her old status, Plumeria helped the Dokuro-dan obtain information and infiltrate in the shogunate. Because of this, and because of her incredible combat prowess, she was made second-in-command of the Dokuro-dan, working as an instructor for rookies and as an assassin for special missions.
I really had fun with this. Really like how her pose turned out. I put so many little details, like the flames from her Battle Tree design on her kimono, or the actual plumeria flowers on her wakizashi scabbard. Let me know what you think of this artwork or this concept~ Also, let me know if you'd like me to continue this project in the future~
