The Arid Runner-Drake is a close relative of the Green Runner-Drake. Unlike its green cousin, this species inhabits dry areas of the world with lots of open spaces. It hunts in small groups of about 3-5 individuals which allows the drakes to take one much larger and formidable prey, such as the Monoceras.

Arid Runner-Drakes have two main weapons at their disposal:
1) The glands located on both the sides of their mouth produce a sticky substance, which is used to slow down or even immobilize prey; upon contact with air, it becomes thicker and more viscous. That, in turn, interferes with the prey's movement and making it an easier target.
2) the spines on the side of this drake's tail function in much the same way as the blade of a sword; once their prey can't run away anymore, the drakes slash it with their bladed tails, leading to a swift death.

As for why Milo is reacting the way he is? Well, as an adventurer he had encountered a few groups up Runner-Drakes in the past, and... let's just say he does not have fond memories of them.
