Despite his mischievous, jestful, and even flirtatious ways of running the ship's systems and interacting with his colleagues, Rell is still at the end of the day one of the best helmsman to have ever served in the Cerinian Navy, in spite of being a non-psion. Such skills were what earned him the chance to have his mind copied for later use as a combat AI, which ultimately allowed him to live on even after his physical body died. When battle lines are drawn, his focus sharpens and his demeanor hardens, at times startling those who had never seen him in such a state prior. Jokes can be saved for when there is food, drink, and song after combat, though he is still known to sneak the occasional innuendo into the comm banter.
On the rare occasions his ship is boarded, they are treated to the sort of fight only an Ungifted who can still best his Gifted peers can provide.
