Sometimes it is the only accurate way to measure ... whether a cub is faking it or not. One would be surprised how quickly some problems go away with an accurate reading. Almost as curative as castor oil.

Babies and animals might bite down on an oral thermometer, breaking the glass. It would be unsafe.

No, I mean the bulb of the thermometer is supposed to be sticking out. Then thin end is supposed to go in the butt.

Ah. The large bulb was comedic. On most oral/anal thermometers, the thin end is actually the bulb. At least, that is the case with the one I used to have, and the others I've seen around.
