Recently completed this head, and I finally got some pictures.
Features:
- Machine washable (cold water) with sealed waterproof eyes.
- Magnetic eyelids and tongue!
- Head can safely be folded in half for transportation purposes.
- Lightweight (1.5 lbs or 0.68 kg)
- Moving jaw
- Carved foam head, built on the liner, with two different types of foam.
- Fully lined through and through. No exposed foam inside nor outside.
- Ears are reinforced, so they can be tugged!
- Some furs used are UV reactive!
- Nostrils go all the way through the head
A little about this project:
Since this was a personal project, I tweaked and changed both the design and species throughout this project. Originally it was a rexon (personal species) but I decided partway through I wanted to make it dragon instead.
I'm extremely happy with how it turned out, and getting a working moving jaw was quite wild! Firstly, I currently build the structure of each head using different foams -- I just prefer the properties of foam.
It can be hard to get a working moving jaw on a full foam head, but I was able to accomplish this by making the bottom jaw of EVA foam.
I took aspects of various moving jaw tutorials and adapted then to my project.
Notably tutorials from Mugiwara, Schneepardi Creations, and Hunni Bear. Next time I tackle a moving jaw, I'll be making some changes to make it adjustable.
For the eyes, I cut some hard plastic domes, sanded, painted and sealed them. Originally I planned to have (non magnetic) eyelids built into the eyelids which is why I cut domes and didn't simply make some regular 3D eyes from plastic. The dome-eyelids idea didn't quite end up working out this time. I do have an idea of how I'll go about it next time.
Overall I'm very pleased, and I learned a lot from this project.
