Yep more egyptian theme... this was actually completed a day after the jackal girl, but I didn't get to scanning this until now...
also I again realised while drawing this that I don't like doing digitigrade feet, I can't not get them to look awkward.

The always-angled look is fine on a quadruped's hind legs.
For a biped, people always want to draw a standing digitigrade with their legs bent. Try that with your own legs sometime -- it's tiring!
Maybe if you remembered the joints, their placement and direction, and that the feet look like "walking on toes," but otherwise kept a standing DG's legs straight?

Yes it is tiring... I've tried it for a bit a while back.
Really though, digitigrade is a very poor way to walk upright, since balancing gets fairly difficult... a tail would probably make it a bit easier though. when running however it gives a much better speed since the leg springs a lot more, and you don't need the same kind of balance while running, plus a tail helps greatly there, as you could lean even further ahead and run even faster.
But eh, I doubt I'll be drawing digitigrades all that much anyway... plus a straight digitigrade leg would be hard to make good looking, I think... but you never know until you try ^^'

personally I think it's more important to place the paws under the body's point-of-weight, or else the character would fall backwards. also, they would need a lot of balancing when they stand still.
in your above pic I would elongate the forelegs a bit more, and shorten the feet (not the paws themselves). I myself make the whole leg a bit longer and distribute upper leg, foreleg and foot by 2:2:1 (if that makes sense).
I like her body type, the mischievious expression, and the nice little dress. err, skirt. I mean, hankie. XD

you can't stand still while standing the way you described, because the paws are oputside the body's point-of-weight.
you are right, of course, digitigrade legs are muscle-power consuming, and evolutionary forces probably would eliminate them soon. but I think we can assume that, if any species would keep those legs, their muscles and tendons would be strong enough to keep them going.
