Quick practice doodle while breaking from screwing up on a comm. Still working on the old 80s TV look, not at all how I want yet.
Some time ago the Creatures community helped me make the lore of the Shee show's universe by throwing tons of material (both official and fanmade) at me. So I'm really only posting this to keep the notes on Leaufonz below for myself. Leaufonz is my TF boy and I wanted his ability to be a bit more grounded and permanent:
The BanSHEE experimented with alternate alien DNA to prolong their own. And more besides Grendel was used. Most were nonviable in the experiments, but there were a few who did make it using an assimilative single-cell type alien. These survived experiments were called "Changeling." Like their Grendel-centric sisters, they are sort of frowned upon and it's debated whether they are really Shee or not. But the majority of Changelings took the Shee's side in the rift, and those who did so were allowed to stay rather than be banished along with the BanSHEE.
* The Changeling can only shapeshift into living DNA it acquires, which is why those, like Leaufonz, come out naturally in the shape of Shee, they are spliced with their species at the start.
* They have little control over their shifting, and because of the splicing, have varying degrees of how well they transform and for how long away from their default form.
* Ingesting or being injected with living DNA material will immediately begin a shift as per the alien cell's defense mechanism. (this explains how the other Shee can prank him into turning into a random creature, by slipping some genetic material into his food)
* While a Changeling, they can only hold the DNA of one of every species. Sort of. It's extremely difficult to shapeshift into another of a species they've already acquired, including other Shee outside their default. This is not impossible, but does take a lot of effort and concentration, and the sheer fact they CAN do this is where a lot of bad stigma lies around these few, as obviously, some have used that for bad things before. Most Changelings, because of the stigma, try their best to not rock the boat and stay under the radar, preferring to live entirely as Shee and not use their shapeshifting abilities.
*Leaufonz, unfortunately, at least 2 of his 3 parents were changelings. Making his shifting extra... unpredictable and longer lasting. So while most Changelings need to injest/inject living DNA to start a shift, Leau can shift at any time into anything he already has acquired over his lifetime. He could possibly shift at will if he wanted, but the key word is "wanted". Leau finds shifting as an inconvenience and hates that he is one.
An example of the unpredictable shifting process is in this picture, crawling through a vent is necessary for the job sometimes as an mechanical engineer. Leaufonz begrudgingly knows his partner is too large to fit and doesn't really want to do it either, subconciously wishing he was something small and agile that could get the job done with ease... therefore he turns into a cat-like alien he's come across, because his body thinks it is "needed." It's often an unsuspected surprise for everyone involved.
