As an artist, I think it’s good to have the skill to be good at drawing and representing both genders, or drawing people accurately as they are, and at times try to see things from view points of other demographics outside of our own. Though I do acknowledge I still struggle trying to draw girls and the feminine experience, and outside of my own sister, mother, and a few female friends, I admit I really have no idea what their experiences are like, how they see themselves, and just kind of assume that they are not that different from their male counterparts.
So something as simple as removing their shirts, one male, one female, I’m very curious how they are perceived differently, and I’m also interested in how I draw males and females differently and if my personal biases affect how I draw and perceive each. From my own observation for females I tend to focus more on the contours and the hair, while for males I tend to focus on the musculature, form, and shadows. When it comes to uploading art, if I were to post the female removing her clothing, I will have to put a mature rating on the image, but if I post a shirtless male no issue.
