'I don’t fully understand the last part of your inquiry'
Sorry, I mean do you have a specific system you use your layers in shading a characters, so that it is easy to do corrections in their own groups
I normally go as follow:
00: Sketch
01: Line art
02: flat colors (Normal)
03: Texture, patterns details (Normal, Overlay)
04: Shading (Multiply)
05: Creases Shading (Multiply)
06: Lighten Shading (Screen)
07: Colored line art (Normal, brush set to Linear Dodge)
08: Highlights (Linear Dodge)
09: optional, Heavy Contrast (Multiply)

It varies, I don’t always stick to the same “system” as you might call it. My background is in traditional media rather than digital, so my work is often more intuitive and less “systematic.” It would be tricky to explain my process since it changes slightly with each project.
