My scanner likes to make all of my images look flat and washed out. In person, the colors are so much brighter and the shading is much more pronounced.

Possibly. It's been around a few years.
Once I figure out how to work my Macbook, I got a nifty new printer to go with it. Hopefully it'll scan better than my current one.
