I was walking the streets of downtown Manhattan when someone stopped me.
“Hello’ they said. “I bet I can guess where you’re from just by looking at you”
Um sure I replied knowing they won’t actually guess correct.
“An island” they say then repeat but adding more “you were born on an island”
Yup, that’s correct I said.
“Good” they replied islands are fun, huh?
I was confused. Then I noticed the beak. I was mad too.
“See you’re from a nice tropical island”
I was transforming and couldn’t really talk as my body changed. Pink feathers sprouted out all over my body. My hands and arms became wings. Wait stop! I cry out. You’re wrong?!
They pause? How can I be wrong?
Just then with a pop my neck grew longer. I’m from Manhattan. Manhattan is an island!
They looked at me. “…”
I looked at them then my new flamingo body.
“So where are your parents from?” They said with a stupid smile on there face.
(Based this story on the several times people asked “where are you from?” FYI they never get it right and actually do then ask where my parents are from)

Personally, I've never understood why some people are offended by that question.
People in my hometown(s) keep asking me where I'm from because strangely, I don't "talk" like everyone else who grew up here. Probably because I spent three years of my childhood somewhere else before we moved right back (thus fundamentally altering my natural accent forever.)
Although to be fair, my family's kind of strange. What with my brother being a lion and my mother being a tiger and me being a...
(Seriously though, I love these types of "identity shift" TF triggers.)
