There once was a time where Gods and Goddesses ruled supreme on this world. There once was a time where mortals honored and worshipped the Gods and Goddesses that ruled above them. And there was a time where the Gods and the mortals lived in peace. However, that peace never lasted forever as on one fateful day, the mortals revolved against their overlords. Temples, shrines, statues, and texts that were dedicated to the Gods and Goddesses were destroyed and any sort of reference about them was lost. Soon the word of the Gods and Goddess became legend, then it became myth, and soon it became forgotten.
After the Revolt of the Mortals, the Gods and Goddesses went into hiding. Some decided to hide in the clouds, some decided to hide in the underworld, and a few even decided to hide in caves and uninhabited islands. However, one Goddess stood out from the rest of the Gods and Goddesses as she decided to no longer hide away from the mortals. That Goddess was Kiv, the Goddess of Life, the Goddess of the Hunt, and the Goddess of Adventure. Blending in and living among the mortals didn’t start easy for Kiv as first she was hunted down by mortals who believed she was an evil dragon. Thankfully, after a few hundred years of being chased, Kiv found herself in the mountain village of Walterville and due to her muscular physique, she was able to blend into town as a training instructor for the village’s gym. Talking about being a training instructor, she was currently teaching her last class of the night.
“Come on, one more round of pushups and then we’ll cool down for the night!”
Kiv and everyone in her class have been doing five sets of 20 pushups and everyone except Kiv looked like they were about to collapse. Sweat and tears dropped onto people’s mats as they tried to keep in sync with Kiv’s rhythm of going up and down. Up and down. Up and down. Soon the last set of pushups were done and now it was time to start the cooldown.
“Good work everyone,” Kiv said when everyone was finishing up their pushups, “for tonight’s cooldown, we’ll start with a child’s pose and after we do the child’s pose, we’ll-”
“BEEP!” The wristwatch on her right arm started to beep and Kiv looked down to see that it was now eight o’clock and that means her class had just ended.
“Alright, I guess we didn’t have enough time to do cooldowns tonight,” Kiv spoke as she looked at her class. “Great work everyone and I’ll see you guys again on Wednesday. Remember to sleep well and have a nutritious dinner!”
After Kiv said that to her class, all of her pupils formed a stampede towards the door and soon it was just Kiv now by herself in her classroom. The dragon goddess gave a sigh of relief that she was finally alone, giving a moment of peace to herself. She was nearly peopled out and she couldn’t wait to go back home to her girlfriend who she loved so much. Soon, after taking a slip from her water bottle, Kiv rolled up her mat and made her way to the door. However, before she could twist the door’s doorknob, she saw something in the corner of her eye and turnt to look if someone was behind her. There was no one behind her and she turned her head to look back at the door and she nearly jumped once she saw someone was in front of her.
It was hard to make out the figure in front of her: he was a black silhouette of a wolf looking down and there was a crimson aura around him. Soon more details of his body started to form as dark fur started to cover all over his body. Then the figure opened its eyes and his eyes were blood red except for his irises which were a ghoulish green. The wolf then started to smirk which revealed his sharp yellow teeth that he uses to chew down his prey. He then started to talk:
“It has been a while, huh Kiv?” the figure wickedly asked. While he talked, his tongue could be seen and his tongue was not like an ordinary wolf’s tongue. His tongue was long and slithery with a column of eye balls inside and the tip of his tongue descended into sharp pincers.
“Who are you!?” Kiv shouted as a tinge of fear started to run throughout her body.
“You really don’t remember me, Kiv?” the figure asked as he brought his right hand to his chest to pretend to be offended. He then laughed. “Of course you remember me; how could you ever forget me.”
After the figure stated that, a flood of suppressed memories started to flow into Kiv’s head, all things she wanted to forget. All of the abuse, all of the tears, and all of the pain started to replay again in her head. Kiv put her hands on her head in an attempt to stop the memories from flooding into her mind but there was no way to stop them.
“Oh, now you remember me,” the demon laughed.
“Crimson, get out of my head!” Kiv shouted. Trying to avoid eye contact with the demon in front of her, the dragon looked down at the gym’s wooden floor and then closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes, she was no longer looking at the gym’s light, brown wooden floor and was now staring at dark, grey stone bricks. She looked up to see that her once gym classroom had become a familiar looking stone room covered with chains, iron walls, and torches.
“Oh Kiv,” Crimson said as he walked forward to her, “remember when you stayed in this room with me? Remember all of the fun times we had in here?”
“No, get out of my head! Stay away from me!” Kiv turned around and started to run away from Crimson but however, the room they were in was starting to get smaller and smaller, making all of her attempts to get away from him futile. The dark god’s laughter started to grow louder and louder as he got closer and closer to Kiv.
“You can’t run away from me Kiv,” the demon jeered, “no matter how hard you try I will always be here. Just like how everything you do will always amount to nothing!” Soon the demon was a meter away from Kiv and there was no way for the dragon to escape.
“You’re worthless Kiv,” Crimson continued, “Anything that you have ever done in your puny life has always amounted to nothing. You’re useless Kiv! You can’t do anything right! Why can’t you be more like sister Kiv!?! Why can’t you do something with your fucking life! Why are you such a failure all the time!?! You’re nothing Kiv! NOTHING! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
As the demon laughed, the stone floor under Kiv’s feet started to morph into a black, tarry liquid that started to drag Kiv down. First her feet were sucked down, then her legs, and then the tar reached her waist. The dragon, in a desperate attempt, tried to pull herself out but nothing was working as she kept falling more and more into the tar. As she was getting pulled down by the tar, Crimson’s words only grew louder and louder.
“No one deserves to love you! No one has ever cared or loved you! You’re pathetic! You can never do anything right! You deserve nothing! You’re a disappointment to your whole family! You’re useless!”
As Crimson’s words echoed through her mind, the tar kept pulling Kiv deeper and deeper inside. The tar reached her chest and then it reached her shoulders and soon her entire body was submerged in the tar. Kiv tried to move her body within the tar but even a Goddess like her was not able to move within the strong tar. She was also unable to open her mouth or nostrils within the tar so no air was flowing to her body.
She couldn’t breathe.
“HELP!!!” Kiv tried to shout but no noise came out of mouth and tar started to flood into her mouth. The only noise she could hear was the bubbling tar and Crimson’s laughter. “HELP!! HELP!!!”

“HELP!!!” Kiv shouted. She stood up and turnt around, expecting to see Crimson beside her but instead, she found a familiar gray cat with purple and blue hair sleeping beside her. She looked around to see that she was currently in her and her girlfriend’s bedroom, not that stone grey dungeon that Crimson chained her to all those years ago. The window outside showed a darkened sky where the moon and stars shine bright. Her body was in a cold sweat as she was comprehending what she just had experienced. She realized that she was just having a nightmare but that nightmare felt way too real for her. Now that she’s thinking about it, the nightmares that she has been having recently have been really intense. What is going on with me, Kiv thought to herself, why do I keep having nightmares like this? What’s wrong with me?
As the pink dragon Goddess thought to herself, a yawn came out of the woman that lay beside her. Kiv looked at the woman beside her and saw that was starting to wake up. First the cat raised her hands into the sky while delivering a mighty yawn and then she looked at the alarm clock that stood on the nightstand beside her. Realizing that it was 2:00 am in the morning, the sleepy cat brought her attention away from the clock and towards her girlfriend. She then saw that her girlfriend was distressed and that caused the cat to worry.
“Kiv, is something wrong?” the cat asked as she yawned again.
“Edda, there’s nothing wrong,” Kiv replied back, “you can go back to sleep; I’m fine.” When she said that, she had her back facing Edda as she didn’t want Edda to see her.
“Kiv, you don’t sound fine,” Edda said with a tone of worriness in her voice. She then brought her right hand onto Kiv’s left shoulder. “Kiv, please tell me what’s wrong; I’m here for you.”
After a minute of silence, Kiv turnt her body around so she could face her girlfriend and Edda immediately saw the tears that were running down her girlfriend’s face.
“I had a nightmare with him again,” Kiv whispered. “I saw him a-a-and I listened to him. And then I was drowning again and I couldn’t breathe. And he was telling me all of these awful things.” A moment of silence stood between Edda and Kiv as the cat began to process what her girlfriend just told her. Then Kiv broke the silence as she once again turned away from her girlfriend and looked down at the floor. “Maybe what he said was right. Maybe I am nothing-”
“No Kiv, don’t listen to a damn thing that bastard told you,” Edda blurred out. “You are not nothing, Kiv. You are not a loser. You are not a failure. You are not a disappointment. You are Kiv: you’re an amazing person. You are an amazing gym instructor. And dammit, you’re the woman I love. So don’t ever listen to a damn thing that toxic fucker has ever said to you; his words are only shadows of the past and you’re my bright future.”
“Edda…” Kiv softly responded.
“Kiv, I love you and I want you to know that I will always be here for you. Come here Kiv,” Edda said as she brought her hand toward Kiv and the dragon immediately brought her hand into hers. Soon the pair spent the night away cuddling with one another as the two whispered loving words to one another. Soon the two girlfriends were in a spooning position where the taller dragon wrapped her hands around the smaller cat’s waist. Kiv quickly looked at her partner’s sleeping face and she could make out a small smile on Edda’s face. This brought a feeling of warmth inside Kiv and Kiv brought her head towards the cat’s left ear and whispered.
“Thank you, Edda… I love you.”
Kiv moved her head down towards her girlfriend’s face and kissed her on the cheek. As Kiv recoiled back to her position, she saw the smile on her girlfriend’s face grew bigger and it made Kiv realize that there was someone who truly loved her and she was right next to her. The Goddess smiled before she closed her eyes and went off to sleep. Thankfully for the rest of the night, she only had sweet dreams.
