Okay, so maybe Donne's poem doesn't provide the best title for a piece as sweet as this, given its rather bitter tone. But it was better than the alternative!
Anyway, what we have here is Niamh, at the tender age of eighteen, out stargazing at dusk, with Pie's girl Lolly. The lucky kids catch sight of a falling star streaking across the sky, and wishes are made! Lolly could certainly used one.
For anyone who remembers "Oseille", this puts Niamh at just about a year before she and Ciara got together. This, obviously, isn't canon, because Lolly isn't mine. But I've always had it in mind that she had a previous girlfriend somewhere in her past. Though why she'd be wearing the same clothes at 18 as she does when she's 31 is not a question you should be asking!
So who is Lolly, anyway? If you don't know that, your best best would be to head straight over to technicolorpie's gallery and take a look around. Though be warned, Pie's blend of cute art and sarcastic humor can be very addictive, and will leave you wanting more.
But for now, let's put it like this: Lolly is one of those people who has had the bad luck to be made into the world's chewtoy. She's a sweet little girl with an expansive imagination, who talks to her stuffed toys and who is too innocent and naive to realize when she's being mistreated. In some ways, she reminds me of myself when I was a kid, and I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to let Niamh give her a little hug and take her out for a peaceful evening away from it all. You don't have to scratch very deep to find the sappy romantic girl who lurks under the surface.

techicolorpie's art. I've been a fan for a while now. You keep commissioning the best artists I can think of, and I'm enjoying it. I think she's gotten Niamh's ears at just the right height, too! Not too short, and definitely not overly long like most people draw the species!

Oh, me too. I've been following Pie's art for quite a while now, and she has definitely become one of my favorites artists on FA. I've always loved how smoothly she can switch from biting sarcasm, to pictures as sweet and gentle as this one. I'm really glad that you've been enjoying the pictures I've commissioned, too. Sometimes, posting commissions can seem a tad self indulgent. But I still enjoy posting them, because it seems like almost every time I do, at least one or two new people find their way to the artist whose work I posted, and that kind of makes me happy. Plus, it's good to know that people appreciate my taste in things. Anyway, before I ramble on too much, thanks again! I always enjoy your comments.
Pie can do some amazingly cute work, especially centered around Lolly here. That's a big reason why, when she started offering commissions with the girl, I simply had to jump at the chance. And I really like, too, that her work shows that you can have a cartoony style, and still be taken seriously when you want to be. *Grins* As for Niamh and her clothes? Well, a girl has to have some secrets. I'm sure she'll never tell.
