Yeah, it's true that editing can be very difficult. The point of editing is to take your work, tear it apart, and then put it back together in a refined fashions before tearing it up and putting it together again in an improved fashion to the previous one. You get picky with how a sentence should sound, what the structure of a specific phrase should be, cleaning up clutter so that the story's transition is smooth between scenes and paragraphs and getting creative with how you use the words. I know personally that it ain't easy.
And it ain't any easier with having someone else edit your work sometimes (or at least in my experience). Sometimes you'll get disappointed in seeing a favourite scene be suggested for removal, and being told to alter another, and not to mention that the editor might not see what you're trying to convey in the story.
Though... have you shown it to other people? It helps to get other opinions from family members, friends, and even people outside your close circle.
Ack...! Should stop talking now. >.<

Well, both of which I can understand. People have lives to tend to, and others might not see what you might have envisioned, it's hard, I know. Don't feel too bad about it though. Look at Tolkien. His works are practically ubiquitous all over the place and yet when his works were still young, one of his own friends shouted out loud during one his readings, "Oh, fuck! Not another elf!" XD
And when it comes to publishers, it kinda depends on the market. The market is obviously furry, but if you're wanting to hit a larger market, you'll obviously want a larger publisher, if you're just looking to get something out there for just the furry market, there's quite a few on and around the site as we speak. One that I know comes to mind includes sofawolf.com and furplanet.com; not sure if that's what you're looking for. And, judging from what I've heard, I believe that publishers should be able to edit it for you (they should have editors and such) and you should also look for publishers within your area.

Well, smaller publishers are starting to get a break now, especially due to this recession and whatnot. A lot of the expensive-ass publishing companies and book stores like Borders and Barnes & Noble are taking a hit in their profits while smaller companies like Half Price are doing well since their independent and cheaper. Or at least, this is what I've been hearing. Don't entirely take my word for it.
Also, you need to let me know how the book's progress is going once you finally start getting off the ground (or at least have it's pages flapping, lol), as I'm quite interested.
