I wish I could give you a nice philosophical answer, but the truth is I just thought it looked cool. I used a combination of Greek letters, European letters, and made up a few. I learned to read by phoenetic, so it makes the most sense to me. No goofy letters with multiple sounds.
Hay NH not that flat. Even southern NH has some nice hilly country. A rail line from Boston to Manchester would have been neat. They tried to revive an old commuter line from Boston to Nashua back about 30 years ago. But the experiment ended after just a few months (Unless they restarted the attempt after I moved in the 80's)
Oh, the Japanese use one like this? I guess I'd seen it on Modern Marvels or something and had it lodged in the back of my imagination, and that's where the look of this came from. I didn't use any specific model though. Yeah, I guess the magnetic field would be bad news for pacemakers wouldn't it?
Actually it even looks like an old design, that was discarded for not beeing efficient. A bit like the 1979(!!!!) JNR ML500 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JNR_ML500_1.jpg ). Iirc this model uses a lot of Energy to create a magnetic field beneath itself on wich it floats as soon as it's fast enough.
What I was originally referring to, is that it does not wrap itself around the railway.
The recent japanese model ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JR%E2%80%93Maglev ) has a high railway surrounding it, while the german transrapid ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transrapid ) has 2 skids wrapped around the railway (It's hard to see on the photo. Zoom).
