When I signed up to join the military service six years ago, if you told me that I would be writing adult books years later, I would have told you that you were crazy. What had started as me writing a couple fanfictions at first had turned into a whole universe that I had constructed on my own.

Writing books, for me, has served as therapy when near the end of my service, I suffered from severe anxiety attacks and outright depression. Military life is not for the faint-hearted and designed to push one to their limits. The very prospect of writing never really occurred until I was taken off the ship and put to shore duty. There, I had a lot more time off than ever and instead looked at things differently. Before, I faced the prospect of possible suicide and decided to give it the proverbial middle finger in return. I chose to live. No longer was I thinking about what I was missing or feeling like I failed at society but instead looked at what I could do to contribute to it.

When I saw the challenges of writing stories, most of it is the fact that we live in an oversaturated media related society as it is. Some of it is the fact that it can take years before you will see the end product of your work. Day by day, I wrote and wrote and wrote. A few even told me that writing was either too hard or not worth it at all. My only way to counter that argument is something my mother told me a long time ago before she passed away. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it.

Now, over two years of writing and now I have shipments of those books coming to my door. Physical copies of stories that I had written. It is a worthwhile sensation for a writer. Each day, I try to do what I can to make that bigger and bigger. If something were to happen to me, then I know that I'm doing something for society in the end, in some form of fashion. It is an utterly rewarding feeling.
