When You Wish Upon a Star Chapter Twenty
When you Wish upon a Star
Chapter “20”
A story by Madneko23
So here is a continuation of the saga of my favorite little kitten. This chapter was less about what Jane is up to and more about the growth I wanted him to have. Still though he is just the little ball of insecurity that I love to write about. I also wanted to start writing more about the process Jane will need to go through as he finds himself. So honestly it seems like a lot of setup. Obviously, Jane is incredibly important to me and I hope that this chapter works for people.
As always please comment. Knowing what people like or respond to, only means that you will get more of it sooner.
Also, slight Spoiler for the game *Life is Strange*. Is anyone else as excited for the remaster as I am!!!

Ugh! My heart, how are you so good at pulling in its strings! The revelation that Moe had lost a daughter and the implications of how many foster kids she's had since then have just destroyed me! And now she's in a position to actually turn her life around for this special little Wunderkind that has been placed in her care now that their resolve is breaking in the face of the cruel and indifferent American Foster Care system, she might actually consider going sober to better to care of this sensitive special (girl? all this time I just thought Jane loved crossdressing or was nonbinary)!
And now on top of that, I'm worried about Maria because we know nothing about her mom's path of self-destruction and addiction (but to what I don't know, what kinds of drugs keep a women out of her house for so long, is she some sort of unbalanced drug addict like Heroine or something and she was forced to accompany some drug lords through their daily morally abhorrent deeds for a few days or was she was she just put it her mind going from club to club dressing like she's 20 years younger and trying to force herself to be the life of the party when the company of each club can't stand this 40 year old women trying to schmooze her way into any attractive male fur she sees), and now I'm wondering how Maria plans to escape and to where, will she get protection from her mom and her Bunny friends house, and could the local YMCA of community church protect her from a horrible parent who nevertheless has a legal right to her child thanks to her connections to some seedy lizard lawyers.

(っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ Jane nuuuuuuuu D:
Their day out was going so well and now the poor child must be utterly distraught Q_Q
But Mary is also in a bad spot D: I hope for everyone involved they somehow get an earlier court appointment, that wouldn't be the first miracle in this story <.<

Basically gender is a spectrum where the two poles are where most people lie. Non-binary is anything that between the two poles (man and woman).
Basically, if Jane didn't identify with either men or women, they'd be some flavor of non-binary. So far, we don't yet know if Jane is actually trans yet. If they start to develop an incongruity with their primary and secondary sex characteristics, then they're probably trans. Otherwise, atm it could just as easily be the case that Jane is a gender-nonconforming man or a crossdresser (though other signs lean away from that, namely their attitude towards play, their desire to play as a female version of themselves, and simply feeling comfortable in women's clothing)
We'd expect that, after being introduced to the possibility of being trans, Jane will reject it initially before doing introspection and noticing other signs.

I don't want to spoil things but Jane is more interested in things then just really liking dresses.
The idea I like is just the idea that its not as if he got exposed to things and suddenly liked them. Rather Jane was very unhappy as his teen self and had really bad gender roles forced on him. (As seen in his early views that certain things were just for girls.) By getting to be with Mary he was shown how silly the prior views were. More so Mary made it clear that he doesn't have to be scared because he knows that she loves him. This is allowing Jane to now figure things out.
Maybe that makes sense. The coming chapters deal heavily with Jane trying to figure out what he likes and finding the courage to just be himself.

Hello! This is tigerden from fox tales times by the way. I only knew about this story on that website, where you haven’t posted this chapter and oh my goodness the surprise to find out that this has been finished for months! I was wondering if you were planning on bringing the story to a close soon since the main conflicts were starting to die down but uh, this certainly adds some new spice to the mix! I really love your writing. It’s so calming to read and it’s always nice to read things from non-professionals that are really coherent and believable.
Thoughts on this chapter in particular: awesome as always obviously. <3 Jane interacting with a bad foster parent like he has so many times before the start of this story is really fun to watch with the added confidence of living with Mary for a while and the true lunacy of the situation he’s in. It’s nice to get a taste of Jane’s thoughts and feelings towards foster parents and seeing what he feels comfortable pushing and when he stays cautious. Also definitely a needed addition to give a tiny glance into Moe’s past relationships and the hints of once having her own child. Just little bits to remind the reader that Moe isn’t just an uncaring alcoholic who willingly takes kids into her care, but has proper motivations and experiences that led her to do certain things.
Also as a quick note, thank you so much for writing this! This story is a large part of the reason I started writing. It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything seriously, but I always hoped to get to your level one day. I don’t think I really aspire for that anymore, but it would certainly be nice, and was a blast to work towards years ago when I was reading this for the first time and trying to figure myself out still. You’re doing a great job, and you mean a lot to all of us! :)
