Trying to get back into night photography, and still have a lot to learn. Minimal light painting on the monument. Too bad this will look horribly dark for those of you with darker monitor settings (use auto adjust!) :D

Hard to say without actually being there, but I probably would have moved the camera to the left to balance out the monument with the tree -- but that would have altered the angle of the monument shadow, and with the monument leaning to the right as it does, the composition would still seem strange, and the moon would remain near the dead centre.
In a case like this, the choice you made would most likely be the best: sacrifice composition for the beauty of the light. And the light *is* beautiful.

I see what you mean. I wanted to frame the monument in the lower left so the shadow would touch that corner, but didn't want to have the larger tree behind it to draw attention fron its shape. I was also trying to avoid some porch lights from a house just to the left.
Thanks again. :)
Thanks again. :)
Oh wow.. the lighting makes this look so surreal. Beautiful work!
What sort of camera do you use for this? I can never get halfway decent photographs of the moon/night sky/etc... I can't seem to find a camera that handles the low light well, even if they claim to have a night setting, it usually seems to be crap. D:
This is really impressive! :D Good work.
