†▫️▫️▫️ The City of Demons: Paladin collection ▫️▫️▫️†
Hello everyone!
Kota (also
Quadronicon ) and I (Hellbird) are ready to show you a small piece of the world, on a project within which we have been working a little for the last year, we both are in love with it and we hope you will enjoy it too! With your help, we were able to show a small piece of this setting, and we are very grateful to
NeeraHyena (Balogar) and
KohalaKilauea (Dustin), thank you for your participation!
The last position is here
The city of demons Paladins of God.
The paladins are the champions of the common people and the first line of defense against hostile otherworldly creatures. They work as a church-funded police force to watch over the demons and nightmares that migrate to the cities of man. While some demons and devils and other creatures of the night may be able to obtain limited citizenships many others do not and some even prove themselves to be dangerous entities needing to be destroyed. This is where the paladins come in.
Each paladin recruited by the church is put through intense combat and spiritual training. Those who make it through are then made to partake in the oath-bearing ceremony. An angel is summoned into our world, sometimes the angel is a patron of the church or if in a smaller church the ritual summons a random angel with the power to bestow oaths. The angel being a representation of different virtues will make the paladin conscript take an oath to uphold the virtue they represent and in return, they are given a portion of the Angel's powers as well as the ability to cast holy spells.
During your training to become a paladin your personality and attributes will be analyzed and eventually you will be given the role of the Sword, the Shield, or the Cross. Each representing a piece of the holy trinity. (The sword is also referred to as the Spear in some regions.)
Once your position has been decided you will be trained in using a weapon selection specific to your position as well briefed on what kind of spells and abilities you may be given as that position though these may vary depending on the angel summoned. Though every paladin conscript goes through the same training eventually the individual paladins may choose their own preferred loadout from the church's private armory. All paladins are given the same armor but weapons may vary greatly. However generally the only weapons available will be reforged European-style medieval weapons or military surplus donated to the church.
Those who purchase a slot in this YCH may choose from the following list of weapons of what they would like their character to wield in the picture. For those that purchase please comment or message us what you would like them to have equipped. (If the weapon has [1 hand] next to the weapon this means you may optionally choose an off-handed weapon or item as well)
The Sword
Out of the holy trinity, the sword is the heavy hitter. Focused on direct damaging and pulling the most attention. The magic they are able to cast is much more limited but still very powerful. Smite is the sword's best friend adding an explosive burst of light to melee strikes. Burning light is a good alternative for a more ranged focused sword imbuing their bullets with burning holy energy mostly focused on preventing regeneration rather than explosive heavy damage. Other spells are more focused on physical enhancement such as speed or durability or even reflexes. Heaven's blessing is a spell that works much like a stimulant or drug to reduce fear and inhibitions suppressing doubt. Faith's shield is one of the sword's few defensive spells creating a thin shell around the sword reducing the impact of strikes as well penetrating power. Much like every other member of the trinity though spells can vary greatly depending on both personality of the paladin as well as the oath taken. Generally, a sword will only have a maximum of 5 spells sometimes less.
The Shield
The shield should never be found too far from the sword but should also keep in mind where the cross is at all times as well. Despite being the most heavily armored they must also be the most mobile as well constantly shifting their location to intercept attacks from the enemy as well as fishing out whatever damage they can. The spells they are capable of are much less focused on damaging and more focused on defense. Though they are just as capable of dishing out heavy damage when the need arises they are more suited toward tanking hits from enemies. The spells the shield is capable of include some basic physical modifications such as speed and reflex and the blessing of iron which like the heavens blessing works like a drug with a few key differences. They can pass this blessing onto others and the blessing works more like a morphine shot in that it blocks out pain and most other senses that may cause someone to go into shock without reducing their functionality. Burning strike is one of the shield few offensive spells being similar to smite but with less explosive results. Heaven's wall is a spell that summons a wall of light to block either attacks or routes of retreat and create the cover. Heaven's door is short-range teleportation to enable the shield to move more freely across the battlefield. Lay on Hands is a spell to mend light wounds swiftly. Many other spells similar to these exist in the shield arsenal and they are a bit more versatile than the sword being able to use up to 7 different spells.
Like all Paladins the roll of the shield is mainly chosen based on the paladin candidate's personality and disposition. The shield candidates are generally the easiest to pick out. Steadfast resolve, protective and nurturing in their nature and maintain a healthy amount of fear of the supernatural, unlike the sword. Their dedication to helping others can vary though it is at least necessary that they form a close enough bond with the other paladins that their loyalty to their Trinity will be unwavering. This can sometimes result in the church cultivating a feeling of dependency in the shield so much so that they become completely reliant on the other paladins to remain socially functionable. Most churches have disavowed this practice as it has led to quite a few shields having committed suicide after one or more of their companions fell in battle, although this practice has not been entirely abolished.
The shields training is often the most all-around taxing on the body. They must combine strength and cardio training by pushing themselves to run at full sprints for extended periods while having full equipment loads. On top of that special pain resistance training is performed on them, this training is often described as being akin to torture. Their training regiment also becomes taxing on the mind as well due to the extensive medical training they go through. The worst part of the education often comes in the form of being shown all the horrific ways it is known that various supernatural creatures might try to kill them. They must identify the kinds of wounds inflicted on real corpses and give suitable treatment methods that may have prevented their deaths. These corpses are either embalmed corpses or freshly donated ones from supernatural attacks.
The shields are the toughest and most caring of all the paladins. The sword may be the face of the team but the shields are always there to patch up their companions and even jump in front of attacks for them. Some consider the shield the noblest of paladins as their self-sacrifice outweighs the rest. Sadly this also leads to the shields having the highest death rate of all the paladins as a good shield doesn't let anyone die before they do.
