I started a little comic project a couple weeks ago that would feature Luthien at different ages, along with her mother, and realized I really needed to make a solid reference sheet for myself so that their designs would be consistent from panel to panel. I've never really depicted children in my art so it was a bit of a learning experience on how to translate an adult character into a little one, and at various stages of growth at that. What I had the most fun with on this though was designing the outfits, and I found I'm rather adept at elven clothing if I put my mind to it.
The figure on the far right is not actually Luthien, but her mother Vanmoriel. I designed both Luthien's parents several years ago and then never really did much with them. Vanmoriel had one piece of art, and then that was it. So I dusted her off for this and gave her a bit of an update in my current style.

The biggest thing to keep in mind when looking at younger Luthien is that she is MUCH older than she looks in any of these. Elves age very quick mentally, being able to do many things quite well even in their first year, but their physical growth is quite slow. An elven child might appear physically under ten, but could be well into their 20's. They reach sexual maturity at around 50 and are considered adults by 100. For purposes of this ref, I modeled her after a human at approximately age 5, 10, 15, and 20+.
