So, I was driving home from getting groceries when I noticed a pronounced rumble from Xpookie. I had checked the air in the tires when I left, and I had looked at the tires when I loaded my stuff into her. "Pookie it almost feels like you have a flat tire! Once we get home I should take a closer look at your wheels..."
Pop! Hissssssss!
"Ok, then, I guess that settles that..."
The tire leaked down slowly enough that I hoped I might limp her the last couple miles home, but not quite. Ironically she went completely flat right across from the local junkyard! =^^=
Took an hour to change, not because of stubborn bolts, or anything like that. Xpookie's spare is nestled snugly under her rump. To extricate it, you need to stick a black rod, into a black hole, look for a black slot on a black knob that is protruding from the black frame... (Notice a pattern here?) A recipe for success! Especially when everything is silhouetted by the setting sun!
I had a few options:
Call AAA and admit I couldn't do basic field repairs on my vehicle...
Pull out the air compressor and duct tape, and see how far I could drive on the leaky tire, if I could get it reinflated at all...
Shred the tire, kill the rim, and make my differential very unhappy and drive a couple miles on the flat...
Use Darwin's powers of Evolution to either develop telekinesis to crank the spare down with my mind, or x-ray vision to see through my flashlight. (That I have specifically on board for just such an emergency) You see my flashlight could light up the hole, but only when it was directly in front of my eye...
Finally I figured it out! There was enough room for me to reach over the spare with the light, now I could see my target clearly enough to get the spare cranked down! The mechanism wasn't even rusted solid! Only took an hour! =^^=
(Where's Thistle her pony sized saddlebags and Patchy-Patch kit when I need it? =P )
I'm very disappointed, these tires only lasted like 12 years! =P Talk about sticker shock, I ordered these online, and they were $90 each, now they are $190, so I had to buy a cheeper brand. Still, it all ended up costing me $600 for new shoes for Xpookie.
Maybe I should open commissions! =^^=
