(actually i have nothing against east, but... I just like western dragons more =D. Also despite cool look ancient katanas were kinda bad mostly because of poor material, purpose and bad blocking. Thats why samurai prefered other weapons like spears and so on, so yeah, Arix have more chances if he will be carefull with spots that unarmored. Don't bring katanas against armored dragons)

Exactly! The folded steel didn't make for a better weapon, it just helped make up for poorer quality material.
And yeah, everyone has their preferences and every style has its advantages. I of course also have a preference for the western style, if it wasn't abundantly clear.

Why fight this samurai? Did he ask for it? Gave his ramble about your techniques dishonoring his traditions?
This is hardly a battle though, unless your armor has gaps to conveniently get stabbed through, his katana won't do much, and even if he's swift, you basically only need one blow to land, or heck just grab him by the throat and crush it, but maybe it's better to spare bloodshed, there is a lot you both could learn from each other!
