Truth is, Gig is pretty much alone in the world. You might say it's why he acts the way he does... He's actively pushing people away from him. It's not entirely his fault, he was burned far too many times in his youth. He was left with no options but to reject affection.
In the Astray timeline, we literally see him at his worst. He's lost everything he ever had and has no desire to "rebuild" as it were. In a manner of speaking, he's just playing along... living day to day, fight to fight.
If anyone knew the truth, they'd probably try to help him, but Gig never lets anyone see him like this...

x3 all I know in canon of the character I RP as, well he mostly stays alone due to the fact he lost a wife to his very enemies, whom even resurrected a wraith in her image only to force the wolf to kill her.
